Meet Our Staff

Phran Simmermon, Camp Director
Mrs. Simmermon is a member of the American Camp Association.  She graduated with her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Lebanon Valley College and has the IU13 Emergency Teaching Certification.  Mrs. Simmermon worked as a Paraeducator in the Special Needs Classroom at Ft.Zeller Elementary School in the ELCO School District.  She was employed by ELCO for 15 years prior to retirement in 2018, previously working as an instructor for their Extended Day Reading Intervention Program.

Michelle Altland, Counselor
Mrs. Altland received her Bachelors from Millersville University and her Masters in Education at Gratz College. She has taught at ELCO for 18 years; 12 years in fifth grade, and 6 years in second grade.  Mrs. Altland 
was awarded "Teacher of the Year" at ELCO in 2005.  She enjoys hiking, crafting, reading, and vacationing with her family.  She has been a Discovery Camp counselor for 2 years and enjoys seeing young campers learn about nature in a fun, enriching way.

Nicholas Wright, Counselor
Mr. Wright is a 4th grade teacher at the ELCO Intermediate School and STEM certified.   He is a 2000 ELCO graduate and graduated from Penn State University in 2004 with an Elementary Education Degree. Mr. Wright earned his Masters Degree in Science Education from LVC in 2010. Mr. Wright enjoys the outdoors and watching Phillies baseball. 

Kaila Ober, Counselor
Miss Ober received her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education with a dual major in Special Education from Millersville University. She taught for year and a half in the Lebanon School District and is now working as a Learning Support teacher for the ELCO School District. Miss Ober enjoys nature, music, and hanging out with friends and family.

Amanda Miller, Art Counselor
Miss Miller graduated in May of 2014 from Millersville University with an Art Education degree as well as a degree in Graphic Design. She is currently working at the Lebanon Middle School, teaching Art. In Miss Miller's free time she enjoys painting, yoga, snowboarding, watching and playing sports and doing anything outdoors. She especially enjoys using nature as a model for her artwork. Her favorite thing to do at Discovery Camp is feeding Mrs. Simmermon’s koi fish! 

Lily Brubaker, Staff Aide
Miss Brubaker is a student at Penn State University studying neuroscience, who plans to go on to medical school. She is a certified EMT, and in her free time enjoys running, traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.

Donna Fornwalt, Camp Nurse
Mrs. Fornwalt has been employed as a school nurse in the ELCO School District for 18 years.
